Dumb Economy, Funny Democracy, Impossible Projects

Artists: Amy Franceschini, Anna Maltz, David Stein, Jon Rubin, Julio Cesar Morales (w/Gordon McNee), Kate Pocrass, and Mike Arcega. Project produced in collaboration with Alison Gerber.

Seven artists have devised proposals for impossible public art projects and present them in the form of an poster edition. Each poster is for sale at 70 Swedish Crowns, and buying a poster is the equivalent of casting a vote. At the end of the first phase of the project, the votes are tallied and the winner takes all. Translated into economic terms, this means that the artist who has sold the most posters at the end of this first phase of the project receives the total sum accumulated from the sale of all of the posters to realize their proposal. This final project will be presented as part of an exhibition in June at the Rooseum's Test Site in Malmö, Sweden.

Special care has been taken to set an even playing field between the artists' proposals. All of the posters have been printed using the same color and process. This presentation of the project also intentionally omits identifying labels that would connect specific proposals to the names of the artists. These connections will be made during the following Test Site exhibition.

This project was made possible through the generous support of the Barbro Osher Pro Suecia Foundation.
